International Women’s Day: The Women of Equus

International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Equus Software! International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while bringing awareness to gender bias. This years theme is #BreakTheBias the theme aims to tackle the gender biases that exist and often make it difficult for women to move ahead. Today we come together to promote women’s equality and achievements across the globe and here at Equus.

Equus Software understands the value of gender equality, inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. We prioritize inclusivity and ensure it’s a vital component of our company values and culture. This is one of the reasons Equus such a great place to work.

Women make up 47% of the workforce. However, women hold just 26.7% of tech-related positions according to a 2021 study done by AnitaB.org. Equus aims to provide a platform to women in tech, and empower our team to be leaders in their space.

“At Equus I have been given the opportunities to grow and flourish. I have the chance to work with successful and fierce females who bring many perspectives to a technology company, which historically has been entirely male-dominated. It’s inspiring to see so many women on the leadership team.” – Caitlin Slattery, Solutions Consultant at Equus.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
“To me, IWD is not only a celebration of women’s achievements but also a reminder that every woman who strives to reach her full potential should have the opportunities and support to do so and we should all work towards making that possible.” – Denise Aquino, Operations Manager at Equus.

“For me, it is the small things we do as a company; the “get better messages” when people are sick; the Equus Gives charity matching that is designed to support work that is important across the world, but also that is close to our employees’ hearts. It’s also the wide range of abilities and cultural differences that our people bring with them to work. It enables us to identify with others no matter who they are or where they come from. In our Tech world, that’s vital as fewer national and cultural boundaries exist.” – Rachel Riley, Implementation Lead at Equus.

How do you foster an inclusive mindset in a technology industry/company?
“By ensuring we reach out to various groups and platforms when we are advertising our roles. In terms of Talent Acquisition, we focus on the person, that amazing candidate regardless of gender or preferences. Who you are as an individual and how you can be an addition to our Team.”   – Lidia Gonzalez, Talent Manager at Equus.

women in tech, women of equusWhat does International Women’s Day mean to you?
“I was raised by a single mother, she was a teacher in every sense of the word. Yes, she was an educator but she taught me invaluable life lessons, most importantly empowering me to become the strong and thoughtful woman I am today. I want to instill that in my own daughter as well as other young women around me. Additionally, I want to celebrate the achievements of women that have inspired me professionally and personally. Whilst we shouldn’t need a dedicated day to celebrate the strength of women everywhere, the day serves as a good reminder to reflect on how far we have come and to also persevere towards social equity. “ – Alyson Rourke, Director of Client Solutions at Equus.

We can all work to #BreakTheBias for International Women’s Day 2022 and everyday, so gender diversity in tech and across all industries is achieved to build a better tomorrow for the next generation.
